Since I wasn´t sure, I went the cheapest way and bought stuffs from SvBony directly, which is not the highest quality stuffs, but it allows me to get plenty different things to get experiences, for a relatively low amount of money and with good standard.Īlso, there are so many factors that could mitigate the benefice of high priced items (one´s eyes, LM, scope quality, focal length, aperture, kid etc.etc.), that I prefer to stay like this for the moment. I am not sure if more could be done, apart of flying to bortle 1 skies.Ĭoncerning accessories, I bought an inclinometer, other eyepieces, filters and a 2x barlow. The scope really offer sharp images and contrast, but i can´t compare with others.Ĭoncerning the light pollution, I bought a dew shield for the aperture, blocking some side-lightnings, I was wondering about flocking the scope, but since I am too newbie, I prefer doing nothing in the inside of the scope for now (later maybe once a cleaning of the mirror will become a necessity) and bought some filters. Negative is the bad quality of the focuser and its positioning. The scope came well collimated and stands the collimation good so far, which is a good thing since it is not possible to collimate the primary mirror. I have spent moreless 60 hours with the scope and a lot of time reading about astronomy over the past 3 months, making me realize the interest this hobby is creating. But it serves perfectly in order to learn a lot. Now, I know it is a small fast scope under a bortle 9 sky. So, giving these limitations, the tabletop dobs is convenient for us. Also, being on the edge of the window offers better viewing position on the focuser. We can also place it on the edge of the windows ( having falling safeties there and the base of the mount fits just perfectly – bigger one won´t have been usable) and use it directly from our flat, which is quite convenient for us during this cold winter time. My 6 years old can manipulate it easily without damaging it. The scope fits perfectly, without disturbing the life in a small 110 sqm flat, fits also perfectly in a small backpack and is the easiest thing on earth to setup. So Santa offered us a small 4-inch Newtonian (SW Heritage 100P Parabolic F4) for Christmas, and we, my son and I, began our journey. Access to bortle 4 (but near coast) skies for 3 months during summer, will see what will happen there. ![]() was there almost 20 times during one hour. 5 minutes’ walk to a huge park (Retiro) with a place with no direct lightings and some stable constructions in order to place the scope at good level (lucky me, no table needed). Difficulties to find time for proper astronomy (putting a large scope in the car, going to a better dark place, mounting all the things, doing astronomy, and then the other way around.). Bortle 9 skies but with (apart high light pollution) relative good seeing, transparency (low humidity, lot of uncloudy nights so far), at least for my beginner feelings…… ![]() Living in a flat in the center of a big city (Madrid, Spain), but with windows facing north, east and south and unfortunately some buildings around. Total beginner and no time for joining/involving me in a club. I have been using the telescope for 3 months now, and this is my findings concerning this new hobby.įirst the limitations I face for this hobby: Feedback from a beginner on visual astronomy under city sky.
